ABOUT SHEILA JOHNSON

A deeply-connected author: Sheila Johnson has an incredibly large network that spans business, sports, philanthropy, politics, media and entertainment. She is the co-founder of Black Entertainment Television. She is the only Black woman to have ownership in three professional sports teams: the NBA's Washington Wizards, the NHL's Washington Capitals, and the WNBA's Washington Mystics. She serves on the Board of Governors of The New School at Parsons School of Design in New York and is a board member for the Jackie Robinson Foundation. She is the global ambassador for CARE, a humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. And these are only some of her accolades!

And an inspiring trailblazer: With the sale of BET to Viacom in 1999, Johnson became the first African-American woman billionaire. She then went on to found the Salamander Collection, a luxury hospitality business. She is widely seen as an inspiration to women, especially those who have overcome significant obstacles to find success in business and life.

With a never-before-told story: Johnson has not told her full story with this level of openness and vulnerability. Her former husband, Bob Johnson, was the face of BET and its exponential growth, but the book shows that she was the real secret behind its success. Their marriage and his extramarital affairs were fodder for the gossip columns, and we finally hear her journey, and how she emerged from that painful period to find success and happiness.
